Oklahoma County Sheriff's Sgt. Bobby Swartz was serving eviction papers to a man in Oklahoma City when he was shot and killed by the suspect, who also wounded another deputy.
An Oklahoma sheriff''s deputy was shot and killed in an exchange of gunfire Monday that erupted while deputies were evicting a tenant.
The incident happened as Oklahoma County deputies were servicing eviction papers at a home in Oklahoma City, NBC News reports. That's when a suspect began firing at the deputies.
One deputy was struck during the initial exchange, and the other deputy quickly went to help his injured colleague. As he was providing assistance, the deputy was shot.
Both deputies were rushed to the hospital, and Sgt. Bobby Swartz was identified as the deputy who was fatally shot. The other wounded deputy was in stable condition.
“Law enforcement is a tight community,” Sheriff Tommie Johnson told NBC News. “They were screaming across the state for my guys.”
The accused gunman was apprehended by authorities following the shooting.
